Skeena River

The Legendary Waterway of the North

The Skeena River is nothing short of legendary, earning its reputation as one of the most significant salmon-producing rivers in the world. Stretching over 610 kilometers through Northern British Columbia, this river winds its way through ancient forests, dramatic canyons, and vast open landscapes, offering unparalleled fishing opportunities for those seeking both adventure and serenity.

Known as the "River of Mists," the Skeena is steeped in history and revered for its incredible biodiversity. It boasts some of the largest Chinook salmon on the planet, with specimens reaching upwards of 50 pounds. In addition to Chinook, the Skeena is home to Coho, Sockeye, Pink, and Chum salmon, as well as an abundance of steelhead, often considered the ultimate catch for sport fishers. These species return in massive numbers each year, making the Skeena a mecca for anglers from around the globe.

Fishing on the Skeena isn’t just about the catch—it’s about the journey. The river’s vastness offers countless fishing opportunities, from its deep pools and swift channels to its tranquil tributaries, each holding the promise of a new adventure. Our expert guides at Skeena Adventure Fishing know these waters intimately, from the prime spots to cast a fly to the hidden channels where the big fish lurk. With their guidance, you’ll be perfectly positioned to make the most of your time on this iconic river.

The Skeena’s natural beauty is as legendary as its fish. Towering peaks rise above its waters, and dense forests line its banks, creating a picturesque setting that feels a world away from the everyday. Wildlife is abundant here—you might spot bears foraging on the shore, moose wading in the shallows, or eagles diving to snatch their catch from the river.

For those who crave a fishing experience that combines the thrill of the catch with the majesty of the great outdoors, the Skeena River is an unrivaled destination. At Skeena Adventure Fishing, we’re here to make your trip unforgettable, offering expert guidance, premium equipment, and a passion for these incredible waters.

Kitimat River

A Hidden Gem in BC’s Wilderness

The Kitimat River is a hidden treasure of British Columbia, renowned among anglers worldwide for its incredible fishing opportunities and stunning natural beauty. Flowing through the heart of the Kitimat Valley, this river is surrounded by lush, temperate rainforests, soaring mountain peaks, and a diverse array of wildlife, creating a serene and awe-inspiring backdrop for your fishing adventure.

What sets the Kitimat River apart is its abundant and varied fish population. Anglers flock here to target trophy-sized Chinook (king) salmon, Coho (silver) salmon, and steelhead—known for their thrilling fights and impressive sizes. Each year, the river comes alive with the arrival of salmon runs, making it a prime location for both seasoned anglers and newcomers eager to experience the thrill of hooking a monster fish.

The Kitimat’s relatively calm flow, combined with its numerous access points and rich fishing holes, makes it ideal for drift fishing, fly fishing, and spin casting. Our guides at Skeena Adventure Fishing bring years of experience navigating the river’s waters and understanding its seasonal rhythms, ensuring you’re in the right place at the right time.

Beyond fishing, the Kitimat River offers an unparalleled connection to nature. Keep an eye out for eagles soaring overhead, black bears fishing along the banks, and otters playing in the shallows. Whether you’re here to land your personal best or simply enjoy the tranquility of the river, the Kitimat River promises an unforgettable experience.

Indigenous Connection

The Skeena River watershed is the ancient homeland of the Tsimshian, Gitxsan, and Wet'suwet'en people. The Skeena River is the second-longest river entirely within British Columbia, Canada (after the Fraser River). Since ancient times, the Skeena has been an important transportation artery, particularly for the Tsimshian and the Gitxsan—whose names mean "inside the River of Mist", and "people of the River of Mist," respectively. The river and its basin sustain a wide variety of fish, wildlife, and vegetation, and communities native to the area depend on the health of the river. The Tsimshian migrated to the Lower Skeena River, and the Gitxsan occupy territory of the Upper Skeena.
